Step 1:  
Description:

Water sampling and laboratory analyses

Water sampling in ashed, acid-washed, borosilicate bottles. Transported in coolers to the lab. Stored at 4C in the dark. Samples analyzed for transition metals by graphite furnace and flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Major anions analyzed by ion chromatography. Cations analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Dissolved organic carbon analyzed by catalytic combustion. Spectral qualities were analyzed by UV-visible spectrophotometry.

Sampling Area And Frequency:
Samples were collected in approximately 3-week intervals during 6 months for a total of 8 sampling periods
Sampling Description:
Field sites were chosen to include a range of altitudes (UV-B exposure), metals contaminations, and dissolved organic carbon concentrations.
