Synthesis of existing studies
We collected data from 103 published papers that included some measure of plant community biomass (e.g., g/m2) in the presence and absence of predators. We did not include studies that report only plant species response metrics such as leaf damage, because there is no clear evidence that these measures translate into long-term changes in primary producer biomass. We also tabulated the biological and methodological information provided in each publication as well as other generally available species information (e.g., species mean size).
