Step by Step Procedures
Step 1:  
Description:

Census of abundance in quadrats and conversion to standing biomass.

Every visually observed organism identified to lowest taxonomic level possible in each of 14 60x60 cm permanently marked quadrats. Data supplemented with weight data collected from individuals taken from uniform stands of sessile species with known density (to convert from % cover data to abundance), or individuals of mobile species haphazardly collected outside of census plots. Wet weight, dry weight, and ash-free dry weight measured. Diet data collected from direct observations at the site, supplemented with information from the literature.
Sampling Area And Frequency:
Censuses taken annually beginning in 1994, generally in early June, at low tide. Average abundance included in this dataset.
Sampling Description:
Quadrats scattered haphazardly across three wave-exposed benches on Tatoosh Island (facing East, South, Northwest). Plots were not treated.
